Jacob Lee Atkinson

Jacob Lee Atkinson, age 62 of Hardy, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026. Jacob was born in South Dakota on September 30, 1963, to Curtis and Virginia Atkinson. Jacob graduated from Franklin County High School then chose to serve in the United States Navy. Jacob served through Desert Storm with several combat deployments. For this service, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for meritorious service in combat among many others. While serving, he married Donna on October 16, 1988. They have two children and two grandchildren. When Jacob was not fishing or tending to his large garden, he often worked on projects for those in the community and his family. Those who know him, know that he was always staying busy fixing things for others. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with his wife cooking, kayaking, camping, and spoiling their two dogs. He was known for his big personality, humor, and ability to make friends every place he visited. He is predeceased by his parents, Curtis and Virginia, and his sister, Rhonda. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his two children, Daniel (Kim) and Kristina; his grandchildren, Landon and Ellie; his siblings, Gordon, Charlie, Carl (Janet), Vicki, Sherrie, and Deris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jacob’s viewing will be at Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount, Virginia on Thursday, July 9, 2026 from 5-7 PM. His service will take place on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11 AM at Flora Funeral Chapel followed by the burial service at Antioch Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Fair winds and following seas
