James Bryant Hickman
James (Jim) Bryant Hickman, 74, of Roanoke, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 6, 2025. He was born in Waynesboro, VA, the son of the late Rufus and Ruth (Teter) Hickman. He was preceded in death by sisters June and Wanda Hickman, and Shirley Caruso.
Jim dedicated much of his life to driving, both as a profession and a personal passion. He began as a long-distance truck driver and went on to spend 25 years as an owner-operator with FedEx Ground, earning a perfect safety record. After retiring, he continued driving for RADAR, taking pride in being able to serve others through his work. A lifelong NASCAR fan and avid traveler, Jim’s love for the road was a meaningful and constant part of his life.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon Hickman; sons, Bryan Hickman and wife Brooke, and Jonathan Hickman and wife Ada; stepchildren, Jenna Loller Chapman and husband Damein, and Sayson Loller; grandchildren, Brennan, Brianna, Bradley, Cora, Arianna, Gianna, Harlem, and Crew; one sister, Rebecca, and her husband Kenneth; many nieces and nephews; and Fran Hickman, the mother of his children.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project, causes close to Jim’s heart.
Services will be held Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 3:00 PM, with Pastor Michael DuVal officiating, at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel. (540) 366-0707
