James Denny Dalton

James Denny Dalton, 88, passed away on September 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on January 22, 1938 in Danville, VA to the late Angie Marshall Dalton and the late James Pyrtle Dalton. James was also predeceased by his loving wife of many years, Mrs. Edna Lee Gammon Butler Dalton.

James was of the Christian Faith. He worked for many years as a Machinist for Piedmont Precision previous to his retirement. He also proudly served in the U.S. National Guard.

James is survived by a daughter; Cynthia Butler Gould of Danville, VA; a brother; Troy Dalton of Danville, VA; two sisters; Vickie Meeks and Virginia Wright both of Danville, VA; a granddaughter; Jennifer Hendricks of Danville, VA; three great-grandchildren; Alajah “A.J.” Perez, Kaylee Perez, and Aiden James Perez; and a great-great grandson; Brendan Hendricks.

In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by a daughter; Lula Lee “Lou” Hendricks; and a brother; John Dalton.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Scared Heart Catholic School, 540 Central Boulevard, Danville, VA 24541.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, with Pastor Bob Yeaman officiating. A private interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. A visitation will be held on the same day just prior to the service from 1-2:00pm, also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA.
