James Linkenhoker

October 22, 1935 - October 4, 2024

James Edward Linkenhoker, 88, of Clifton Forge, VA, went to be with our Lord Friday, October
4, 2024 at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem, VA. He was born October 22, 1935, in Covington,
VA, to the late Luther Cline Linkenhoker and Vivian Weikel Linkenhoker. He was a proud
graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1954. He served his country in the National Guard
for a number of years. One of his first jobs was as a lifeguard at Douthat State Park, where he
would swim across the lake after the beach closed. He later served as manager of Sherwin
Williams in Covington before becoming the owner of General Sales Hardware in Clifton Forge.
He was a member of Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church and in particular was active with the
building committee. He was a member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge and the Clifton Forge
Shrine Club, and enjoyed cooking donuts during the Fall Festival. He loved spending time with
his family, especially at his camp on the Cowpasture River and at the former Hatchery Hunt
Club in Paint Bank.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Frances Myers; two
sisters: Virginia L. Deskin and Shirley L. Miller; and his brother, Everett Curtis Linkenhoker.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances Arlene Myers Linkenhoker; two daughters: Lisa
L. Boothe and husband Duane, and Stacy L. Harrison and husband Bobby, all of Clifton Forge;
five grandchildren: Caleb Harrison and wife Rebecca, James Michael Boothe and girlfriend
Alexandra Wright, Hanna Boothe, Rebecca Boothe, and Andrew Boothe; two
great-granddaughters, Evelynne and Emma Harrison; sister-in-law Betty Myers Brooks; nieces
and nephews Betty Brown Morton, Taylor Kenestrick, Ann Miller Gwynn, Richard A.
Linkenhoker, Greg Brooks, and Maria Branham; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, his body will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held on
Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Central Advent Christian Church, Clifton Forge with Reverend Skip
Hastings officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time of service in the church sanctuary. In lieu
of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Clifton
Forge Presbyterian Church, 544 Church Street, Clifton Forge, VA 24422, or to "SHC Greenville", c/o Kazim Temple, 628 Campbell Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24012.
