James Lynwood Towler

James Lynwood Towler, 81, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was born March 3, 1942, in Virginia, to the late James Reggie Towler and Dorothy Ella Carter Towler.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Virginia Mae Towler; brothers, Kenny Towler, and Donnie Towler; and grandson, Jeremiah Kent.His brother, Doug Towler passed away two days after James.James retired from American of Martinsville where he dedicated more than 50 years as a finisher. He had a heart bigger than he was that made him love to take care of people and open his home to anyone in need. He was a kid at heart that loved joking and playing with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He loved his dogs, Lucy, Rosie, Beck, and Head, he loved cars and was a working man. He loved watching Gunsmoke and westerns. He never met a stranger, and always took care of people in need.He is survived by life partner, Jackie Cayton Lewis; daughters, Becky Kent (Mike), and Sharon Holden; son, James Lynwood Sumner, Jr.; sisters, Lois Lewis, and Linda Sue Goins; brothers, Jerry “Richard” Towler, and Danny Towler; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 2:30 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
