James Melvin Tabor
James Tabor, “Jim”, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024. He was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia and graduated from JeJerson High School. Jim served in the United States Navy, fulfilling his duties aboard the U.S.S. Satyr for 18 months during the Vietnam War. Once Jim returned home from duty, he married his high school sweetheart Sandra, and started a family in Roanoke. Jim and his family spent many weekends at Smith Mountain Lake and hiking local trails. Jim then opened and operated Comfort Services, Inc., providing HVAC services to the Roanoke Valley and beyond for over 40 years.Jim was a true gentleman with class and always had a story to tell. This helped him make several friends at Luigi’s and Elks Lodge #197 where he was a lifetime member. Jim touched many with his giving nature, and he was a mentor to several over the years both professionally and personally. Jim enjoyed a round of golf with friends, fishing, trips to the beach, bourbon, and most of all spending down time at Groundhog Mountain. Jim is survived by his wife Gina, children Derrick (Faith), JeJ (Iris), Leanne (Joey), and grandchildren Drew, Daren, Bridget, mother-in-law Lotus (Wayne), sisters-in-law Robin (Matt), and Renee (Adam), nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends who loved Jim very much. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Domestic Abuse Disruption (DAD) at dadhelps.org or 2032 Wynmere Drive Roanoke, VA 24018.There will be a celebration of life on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Luigi’s Restaurant on Brambleton Ave. in Roanoke from 3pm-5pm where Jim’s family will receive those that wishto share fond memories and pay tribute to a man who was one of a kind.
