James Newberry
James Ambler “Jimmy” Newberry, age 61, of Clifton Forge, Virginia passed away Friday, May 8, 2026.
He was born on June 9, 1964 in Union, West Virginia to the late Judge Emory Newberry and Barbara Sue Brooks Newberry. He was a transportation driver for VA Taxi and Transit Company. He loved antique cars, especially 1957 Chevy’s, and riding motorcycles. He loved spending time with family, gardening and always enjoyed having a “taste” of his favorite food. Jimmy never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Benita Leigh.
He is survived by a brother, Phillip Daniel Newberry (Melissa); three nieces, Kelsey Newberry Cash, Heather Andrews (Thomas), and Cheylane Moore (Kyle); an uncle, Phillip Brooks; an aunt, Mary Bowyer; ten great nieces and nephews; and a special best friend, David Putnam.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 12:00PM in Good News Church, Covington with Pastor Steve Noel and Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior at the church.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Good News Church, 331 West Main Street, Covington, Virginia 24426.
