James Patrick Baker

James Patrick Baker, 70, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026, at his home. He was born March 25, 1956, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Patricia Godwin Baker and the late James Holt Baker.

In addition to his father, James was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Louise Price Baker; and three sisters, Trish Younts, Brenda Henry, and Laura Hyatt.

James worked for Virginia Mirror as a glass handler. He was a Christian and a man who found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed playing video games with his friends, working on vehicles, and spending time with those he loved. Before his health declined, James also enjoyed cooking and was known for his love of sweets.

James had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, “Rosie,” and enjoyed wearing his cowboy hats. He was a fan of western movies and loved listening to music, especially Elvis Presley and the oldies. Above all, James loved his family and friends and treasured the time and memories they shared.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Godwin; two daughters, Christina Baker (Kevin Adkins) and April Baker (Ron Robinson); two stepdaughters, Brittney Tempesta (Joe) and Jennifer Hawks; one sister, Gwendolyn Baker; four grandchildren, Isaiah Baker, Passion Adams, Latreal Wiggins, and Diamond Downs; four step-grandchildren, Aydyn Peche, Bella Tempesta, Joseph Tempesta Jr., and Vincent Tempesta; close family members, Dennis Travis, Jr., Amber Gardner, Crystal Brown, Maine Brown, Brandon Denny, Heaven Denny, and Felicia Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a late date.
