James Penn

Mr. James Penn, 95, of Spencer, VA transitioned on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Henry County on February 7, 1928 a son of the late Willis Melvin and Rosa Claybrooks Penn. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, James Allen Penn.

He was retired from Fieldcrest Canon and was a member of Mayo Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Senior choir, Royal Twelve and the Heavenly Stars ministries and he was also the oldest member.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Shirley Penn, of the home; two daughters, Venessa (George) Giles, of Easley SC; and Doretha (Robert) Easterly, of Atlanta, GA; one son, Michael (Angie) Penn, of Spencer, VA; two sisters, Dorothy Turner, of Martinsville, VA; and Annie Haye (Mordecai) Travis, of Spencer, VA; one brother, Mack Alfred (Audrey) Penn, of Martinsville, VA; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 12:00 at Mayo Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight N. Mack, officiating. Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home at 108 Railroad Lane Spencer, VA at other times. A public viewing will be held on Friday from 1:00 to 5:00 PM in the chapel of Hines Funeral Services, Inc.
