James "Porky" Ashbrook

James “Porky” Ashbrook, 81, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away May 8, 2023. He was born November 10, 1941, in Lebanon, Virginia, to the late Guy Ashbrook and Emily Fields Ashbrook.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was retired from DuPont, a member of Knights of Columbus, past president of JC’s of Collinsville. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time at Smith Mountain Lake, fishing, hunting, jet skiing, working in the yard, and building decks. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Blizzard Ashbrook; daughter, Mary -Margaret Martin (David); son, Paul Edward Ashbrook (Gina); brother, Edward Ashbrook (Patty); grandchildren, Cameron Martin (Cortney), Chase Martin (Ana), Corbin Martin, Emily Ashbrook, Mary Elizabeth Pritchett (Anthony), Mitchell Dunagan; great grandchildren, Camryn Gilbert, Jayce Martin, Judson Martin, Olivia Martin, Andre Pritchett, and Natalie Dunagan.

The funeral Mass will be Friday, May 12, 2023, at 3:00 PM at St Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Henry Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, May 11, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
