James Stewart Seligman
James Stewart “Stu” Seligman, of Axton, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in his home.
He was born September 29, 1936, on Long Island, New York, to Walter and Marie Seligman.
When he was nine, his family moved to Bath, New York. He attended Haverling High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball.
After high school, Stu enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving three years and attaining the rank of Corporal.
He returned to Bath and married Sharon Cranmer, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. They later moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, where they raised their family.
Upon retirement, Stu and Sharon moved to Meadows of Dan, Virginia, where they enjoyed playing bridge with members of their church and raising miniature horses, emus, and mini goats.
He also enjoyed golfing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
Stu was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marie Seligman; his brother, Walter Seligman; his sister, Ginger Dean; and his stepfather, Edwin “Buster” Bull.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Cranmer Seligman; three children, Pamela Pugh (David), Mark Seligman (Stefanie), and Susan McLemore (Mark); his brother, John Seligman (Monika); nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, April 20.
