Janet Sutphin Hunter
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet Sutphin Hunter, who left this world on Saturday, October 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Janet was born on August 13, 1956. She lived a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication. Janet was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jesse and Agnes Sutphin, along with her brother Charles Sutphin and nephew Mark Sutphin.
Janet is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Jerry Hunter. They walked through every season of joy and difficulty as best friends. Together, they built a lifetime of memories. Janet cherished her roles as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Angie Hunter, Debbie Hunter, and Chris (Vic) Moses, as well as her treasured grandchildren: Jayde Dudley, Candy Wills, Hunter Bryant, Heather Jones, Forest Hale, and Spencer Talmadge, Brittney Hartshorn and Blake Moses, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brother, Jesse (Diana) Sutphin, and sister-in-law, Maggie Sutphin.
Educated as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Janet devoted her life and career to caring for others. Her compassion extended beyond her profession, as she consistently demonstrated kindness and generosity. Janet had the ability to make people feel loved and valued, and her nurturing disposition touched many lives.
In her free time, Janet found joy in spending time with her family. One of her greatest loves was her beloved pet, Peaches, who brought unconditional love and companionship to her life.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Lewis Gale Hospital who cared for Janet during her illness. We deeply appreciate the exceptional care and attention she received.
Janet's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. In honor of Janet's wishes, no funeral service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel.
