Janice Ann Haynes Scott

April 8, 1948 - November 16, 2024

On Saturday November 16th, after many years of declining health and a hard-fought battle with cancer, Mrs. Janice Ann Haynes Scott of Mount Airy, age 76, left her earth side home to be with the Lord while surrounded by her loving family at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Janice was born on April 8, 1948, in Surry County, one of nine children born to the late William Thomas “Tom” Haynes and Emma Ree Hill Haynes. Often referred to as “Nanny Jan” by her grandchildren, she was a retired insurance agent with State Farm Insurance – Steve Gross agency in Mount Airy. A member of Beta Sigma Phi in her earlier years, she was an avid daily game show watcher and Words with Friends player with her granddaughter and could often be found scrolling Facebook searching for new recipes to try out for her family or sitting outside at the swing set on a sunny day enjoying her grandchildren while watching her husband mow and do yardwork, yet again. Married for 56 years, she is survived by her high school sweetheart, Terry Nichols Scott of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tara (Michael) Vernon, and Misty Scott; five grandchildren, Madison (Champ), Talan, Autumn (Cameron), Kennah, and Scottlin; three great grandchildren, Aubern, Roston, and Emry; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie (Neil) Utt, and Vicki (Earnie) Johnson; one brother, Dickie Haynes; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Haynes, and Carolyn Nixon; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Marshall Watson; and by four brothers, Tommy, Jimmy, Ronnie, and Bobby Haynes. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday November 21, 2024, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in her memory.
