Janice Trula Bess Duncan

Janice B. Duncan, 87, of Collinsville, Va. passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024. She was born December 21, 1936 in Hix, West Virginia to Jacob Huston Bess and Mary Elizabeth Carter Bess.In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Lawrence Monroe Duncan; grandson, Evan Duncan; her brothers, Kenneth and Jakie; sister, Betty Green; brother-in-law, Asa Duncan; sisters-in-law, Ethel Viers, Roxie Martin, Inez Vaught, Danie Mannon and Eula Farmer.She is survived by her sons, Earl Duncan (Paula) and Elden Duncan; grandchildren, Tiffany Duncan, Elaina Richardson (John), Julie Anna Stahlman (Caleb), and Aaron Duncan (Alayna); great grandchildren, Eden and Marlowe Duncan. Janice was very proud of her family and really enjoyed the times she got to spend with them. Janice was a hardworking and loyal seamstress at Lacy Manufacturing and Bassett Walker. She also did a lot of seamstress work from her home helping people. Later in life, she became very proficient at cross-stitch and crochet. She also loved growing roses and other flowers.Janice and Lawrence were faithful members of Temple Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, King’s Kids and also helped with Vacation Bible School. She was very proud to have graduated from Temple Bible Institute. Janice was a wonderful, caring and giving person who modeled the Christian values of her strong faith. The afghans and blankets she made, were given as gifts to friends, family and people in the nursing homes that she and Lawrence visited with on Sundays. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Henry Memorial Burial Park and will be officiated by Pastor Don Reynolds. In case of severe weather, the service will be held at the same time and date in the McKee-Stone Funeral Home Chapel.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 125 English Road, Martinsville.
