Janis Penn Gravely

Janis Elaine Penn Gravely, 73, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at SOVAH Health of Martinsville. She was born December 3, 1949 in Henry County to the late Douglas Penn and Martha Parker Penn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Addie Thorpe, Hilda France, and Marion Smith; brothers, Daniel, Frederick, James and Alvin Penn; and a great-grandchild.She had a college Associates Degree and had been employed as a pharmacy tech for CVS, prior to CVS, she was a dedicated employee of Tultex Corporation. She was a member of New Bethel Christian Church, and loved to bowl, sing, and sew. She enjoyed watching wrestling.Janis is survived by her husband, Marvin Monroe Gravely; daughters, Lydia Wade, Kimberly Fuller (O.J.), Kerry Cropper (Calvin), Marlana Thomas (Shawn) and Joy Moore; sons, Jody Moore (Kim) and Alex Kissee; brothers, Thomas Penn (Mary) and William Penn; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.The funeral will be Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 12:00 PM at New Bethel Christian Church, 9 Brandermill Road, Fieldale, Virginia, with Rev. Mable Finney officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.Wright Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the family.
