Jay Manning

Charles "Jay" Manning, 84, of Bassett, Va., died on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at his residence. He was born April 9, 1939, in Henry County, Va., to the late Robert Griffin Manning and Mary Lewis Manning. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Don Scott; grandson, Evan Scott; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Scott; and his brother, Frank Manning.

Jay was a member of Fairway Baptist church and was known as a Jack of all trades. He spent time serving our country in the Navy before working for himself as a general contractor. Jay cherished the time he spent with his beloved family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Jay is survived by his devoted wife, Norma Manning; son, Lynn Scott; two grandsons, Matthew Austin Scott and Jacob Scott; three great-grandchildren: Grayson, Kaylee, and Kaleb Scott; and great-great-grandson, Cameron Scot; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A visitation will be held from 11:00AM to 12:00PM on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Bassett Funeral Service chapel, where a funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon with Pastor Kirk Montgomery and Pastor Jeff Evans presiding. The burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
