Jean Adkins Foster

Jean Adkins Foster, 81, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on January 15, 1943 in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Bertha Doss Adkins and the late Carrett Darcel Adkins. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. James Earl Foster.

Jean was of the Christian faith, and was an honorary member of Westover Hills Pentecostal Holiness Church. She worked for as a Bookkeeper for many years at Belk Leggett Department stores, previous to her retirement. She later worked for Virginia Heating & Regrigeration.

Jean is survived by a daughter; Ms. Kimberly D. Foster of Danville, VA; special nieces and nephews; Julie Carlisle and husband Ken, Angela Hudson and husband Wesley, Jeanette Phillips, and Wanda Hancock; brother in law; Malcolm Herndon, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by a son; Darryl James Foster; four sisters; Mary “Sallie” Herndon, Barbara Holley (Leonard), Patsy Adkins, and Bertha Elizabeth Adkins; and two brothers; Carrett “C.D.” Adkins II (Mary) and James “Jinks” Adkins (Betty).

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540 with Pastor Stephen White and Pastor Mike Hearp officiating. Interment will follow at Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery at 16300 Mt. Cross Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549. A visitation will be held on the same day prior to the service from 12:30pm-1:45pm also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
