Jean Peters Thomas

- April 21, 2023

Jean Peters Thomas, 66, entered into the arms of her loving Savior, whom she served with steadfast faithfulness while on this earth. She breathed her first breath of celestial air on Friday April 21st. She graduated from this earthly life surrounded by her loving family. She was welcomed by her Savior and her parents Vernon Wesley Peters, Sr. and Maybelle Boyd Peters. Also standing on heaven’s shore were her sisters, Ronda and Jane Peters, brother-in-law, Jimmy Thomas, father-in-law, James Thomas, grandparents, and her unborn child. Countless other relatives joined in for her Homecoming Celebration.

Jean’s earthly loss is mourned by her loving and devoted husband of 42 years, Steven L. Thomas, three children Joshua Thomas and his wife Katie, Nathan Thomas and his wife Hannah, and Stephanie Thomas Riddle and her husband Will. She would tell you she had three sons and three daughters, no differentiation. Also grieving her loss are seven grandchildren, Rebekah, Anna, Aaron and Stephen Thomas, (Nathan and Hannah) and Addison, Emily, and Peyton Thomas (Joshua and Katie). A piercing loss is felt by six brothers and their wives, VW (Susan), Tim (Sandy), David (Karen), Daniel (Lorrie), Arnold (Tina), Leslie (Hope) and two sisters Ruth Peters Thomas, and Rebecca Peters. She is also missed by her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and countless family and friends.

Love, grace, and steadfast faithfulness to her Savior were the banners Jean carried through this life. Her love for her family was only surpassed by her love for her Savior. She sought daily to honor Him in all things. It was her only desire and greatest joy to serve her Lord and love her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. Prayer was her consistent companion. Spiritual discernment and encouragement flowed from her lips, and Godly character showed in her daily walk.

Cancer took the earthly life of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Cancer could not touch her faithful testimony of service to her Savior and could not diminish her steady outpouring of love and grace to everyone who was blessed to know her. Never once did a complaint or a “why God?”, cross her lips, only a complete trust in the One who created her. She faithfully and cheerfully served Him in the midst of her cancer battle. She was tried and came forth as gold, a steady reflection of her Savior. Now she sees His face.

Jean presented her body a living sacrifice, ran her race with patience and endurance, and only desired God’s perfect will for her life and death. Our immense earthly loss was immediately followed by her immeasurable heavenly reward and “well done, thou good and faithful servant”. Our hearts are simultaneously grateful that she is healed in the presence of her Savior and shattered for our earthly loss. She exemplified how to trust Christ both in life and death. The only thing she would ask of us is to remain faithful and serve Him. Love, trust, and follow the Savior.

They are lovingly and consistently the hands and feet of Jesus to the family. We love you and thank you for honoring our family.

A special thanks to Martha with Agape Hospice for her tender love and care of Jean as her hospice nurse. The genuine concern you showed, and the sacrifices you made did not go unnoticed.
