Jennie Frances Wimbush
Jennie Frances Wimbush, 92, of Bassett, Virginia, peacefully answered the Master’s call and entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in Bassett, Virginia. She was born on June 26, 1934, in Bassett, Virginia, to Jesse Wells and Irene Manns Wells.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred L. Wimbush; daughter, Stella Mae Frances Brown; and sisters, Ernestine Wells Haywood, Evelyn Vaughn, Martha Vaughn, and Elizabeth Wells.
Jennie loved gardening and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed traveling and spent much of her time taking trips, especially cruises. She deeply loved and adored her family, especially her three children, and was the glue that held them together. Dedicated to her church, she held a special love for her church family and pastors. She found joy in listening to gospel music and praising God. Her generosity knew no bound, she would give the shirt off her back and her last dime to someone in need. As her son lovingly described her, she was “the true definition of tenderhearted.”
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Edward Wells, Sr., and Gregory Alfred Wimbush, Sr. (Pamela); sister, Mildred France; and brothers, Robert Floyd Wells and Shedrick Wells.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Edward Wells, Jr., Josey Wells, Chris Wells, Matthew Wells, Bonnie Lynn Wells, Jessica Wells, Melissa Brown, Todd Brown, Danielle Lovings, Gregory Wimbush, Jr., Jervis Wimbush, Jeremiah Wimbush, Tomika Wimbush, Monica Wimbush, and Amanda Wimbush; 28 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Wright Funeral Service – Bassett Chapel, at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at The Wimbush Family Cemetery, 2717 Pilson Sawmill Rd in Stuart, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A floating visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service – Bassett Chapel.
