Jerrell Tommy Spencer

August 11, 1953 - July 22, 2025

Jerrell Tommy Spencer, 71, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. He was born in Martinsville, Virginia, on August 11, 1953, to the late Joseph Russell Spencer and Esther Leon Larimore Spencer. Along with his parents, he is preceded by his brothers, Kenneth Larimore and Tony Larimore; his sister Polly Johnson; great-granddaughters, Bailey Tenney and Jemma Gammon; and two very special friends, Danny Hodnett and Richard Craig.

Tommy was a graduate of Drewry Mason High School, class of 1971, and Averett University, class of 1991. He was employed by the City of Danville as a social worker for over thirty years. He also spent time at Danville Parks and Recreation. Tommy was a valued member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, worked in the Clothes Closet, and helped with Wednesday night meals. Along with that, he was part of the Prime Timers Group and a previous choir director and member of the Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church in Danville. Tommy was an actor and loved his stage time at Piedmont Arts Association and Danville Community Theater Group. Along with being an avid cruise ship vacationer, he loved yard sales and thrifting and volunteering his time helping people with sincere compassion.

Tommy is survived by his three sons, Joseph Richard Spencer (Kenyatta), Jason Thomas Spencer (Samantha), and Justin Patrick Spencer (Christy); and grandchildren, Harley Spencer, Brayden Spencer, Joshua Spencer (Shamorrow), Joel Spencer, Will Green, and soon to be born Josiah Spencer. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at Riverside Health Rehabilitation Center in Danville for the loving care that was shown to Tommy.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville, with Pastor Jonathan Hilliard officiating. The family will accept friends one hour prior to the service.
