Jerry Lynn Franks

Mr. Jerry Lynn Franks, age 73 of Mount Airy passed away at a daughter’s home on Wednesday morning June 5, 2024. Mr. Franks was born June 8, 1950, in Columbus, WI to the late Florian and Dorothy Helen Riege Franks. Mr. Franks was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Jerry proudly served our country in the US Navy. Mr. Franks was a member of the Project Healing Waters for Wounded Veterans making fly fishing lures. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and teach his family and friends the lessons of life. Jerry was extremely proud of his Surry County Fair prize-winning sunflowers and jams and jellies. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Renee Ring; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet Ring, Jill and Mark Puckett, Susan Slate, and Paula Jones; grandchildren, John Ring, Adam Ring, Jerry Joseph Ring, Ryan Walker, Matthew Walker, Albert M. Blackmon, Jr., Melissa Varney, Meagan Puckett, Jason Ashley, Josh Ashley, Jessie Ashley, James F. Ashley, Jr., Gralyn Slate, Levi Slate, Cody Slate, Victoria Wolfman, and Chasity Hawks; great-grandchildren; Tyler Ring, Rachel Ring, Isaac Ring, Jonah Bear Walker, Phillip Brave Walker, Scout Walker, Wrenn Walker, Elijah Walker, Albert M. “Albie” Blackmon, III, Ruby Grace Blackmon, Jasmine Varney, Bryson Varney, Mason Varney, Adley Varney, Natalie Puckett, Bentley Puckett, Kyrie Simmons, Maverick Slate, Crew Slate, Willow Slate, Amelia Hazelwood, Avery Wolfman, Lukcus Hawks, Cheyenne Hawks, Dakota Hawks, and Ty Hawks; siblings, Jean Jordan, Glenn and Sharon Franks, Robert Franks, Bonnie & Bill Davis, Randall Franks, Debra and Jerome Topel, and John and Annette Franks; and many other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, June Elizabeth Moody Franks; two daughters, Judy Burgess and Robin Jones; 2 great grandsons, Henry Blackmon and Ethan Ring; an infant sister, Kristie Belle Franks, and by a son-in-law, Craig Slate. The funeral service will be held Sunday June 9, 2024, at 3:30pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mount Airy, with Bishop Brian Johnson and Leon Hiatt officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:30pm in the Relief Society Room at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, and other times at his daughter’s home at 108 Astor Street, Mount Airy.
