Jesse Elmer Nichols

Jesse “Jim” Elmer Nichols, Jr. 84, of Henry, Va. passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026. He was born in Roanoke, Va., May 8, 1942, to the late Jesse Elmer Nichols, Sr. and Edith Bynum Nichols.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jo Ann Nichols; son, Michael D. Nichols (Margo), daughter, Amy Gayle Sutphin; stepchildren, Lisa Baldo (Mike) and Ludy Scouras (Pete), 8 granddaughters and one grandson; 5 great grandsons and 4 great granddaughters; sisters, Lena “Pat” Vaden and Bonnie L. Stump (Tom); brothers, Don R. Nichols (Joyce), Eddie D. Nichols (Debbie) and Bobby L. Nichols (Brenda).

Jim loved his family and was a very hard worker. He enjoyed a long career with Appalachian Power Company and retired as Superintendent with 37 years of service.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed watching old westerns and especially Gunsmoke.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett. A private interment will be in the Henry Memorial Park
