Jesse Steven Shelor
Jesse Steve Shelor ObituaryJuly 29, 1955-February 20, 2026Friday, February 20, 2026 Steve went to be with his Lord and Savior and his son Ryan in heaven. After a rough last two weeks where he was able to be at home which made him happy, ALS took its final toll on him. He had battled with ALS for the last several years with an official diagnosis in September 2024. Steve loved his family more than life itself and anytime someone asked how they could pray for him he would answer please just pray for my family. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Shelor; and his sister, Linda Felton; as well as his mother-in-law, Linda Davis; and then the hardest his son, Ryan Michael Shelor. He leaves behind his mom, Patricia Shelor that loved him dearly and called him “Precious”; his loving wife of almost 44 years, Cindy Shelor who he spoiled like no other ; adopted son, Zachary Steven Shelor that was his world especially when sports were an opportunity to watch together as they were the best of buddies! Also surviving him were his son, Jonathan Shelor (Katie) and he was known as PawPaw for many years as he loved his grandchildren to the moon Spencer, Kylan, Kenzie, Cole, Blake, Tate and Nash. His sister, Debra Barbour (Rodney) as they were the perfect siblings with all of their jokes and their laughter and love they shared. Debra spent Steve’s last days around the clock loving him and giving him his medication until he met Jesus. Also survived by his brother, Alan Shelor (Jean); brother-in-law, Justin Davis (Holly) that he loved more like a brother as he was always there when Steve needed him. Father-in-law, Gary Davis who he loved and always made sure had what he needed and was safe. Tim and Rene Ward who gave him peace about the future for Cindy and Zach. He was able to share his wishes with them and they never denied any of them and were always supportive. Niece, Taylor Davis who he loved and supported in all she did as they shared texts and he kept up with all of her golf scores and what was going on in college life. Niece, Ashlyn Davis always kept him happy as well with all of her fun stories and keeping him up with all of the trends and he truly loved watching her play lacrosse and was such an encouragement to her. Ruthie, Alena and Cora Ward were also a part of the family and they kept up with each other often through texts. He loved hearing their swimming stories and watching live feeds of them competing for their teams in swimming and then Cora was his Bluey buddy for many years. Thank you to the Lord for sending the most compassionate and loving nurse to care for him as Nicole Winfield was just what our family needed and now we consider her and her family a part of our family. He loved her so much and he waited for her to be by his side as he went to see Jesus. Karen Woody was also such a blessing to care for him with Cindy as was Debbie Szuch an always dependable friend who is always there for our family. He also had many special nieces and nephews and cousins as well and of course his favorite dog Otis. The family will have a Visitation on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. A Chapel Service will follow at the Funeral Home at 1:00pm, officiated by Pastor Ken Nienke. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
