Jim Allen Chaney, Sr., passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born on March 19, 1936, to the late Jim Chaney and Cassie Booth Davis.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his stepfather, John S. Davis.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Frances Lucille Chaney; his son, Jim A. Chaney, Jr.; and his daughter, Debra Lynn Chaney of Parkersburg, West Virginia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jamie Ann Chaney of Bassett, Virginia, and B.J. Bernard of Washington State; his great-grandchildren; his brother, Wayne Page Henderson of Gloucester, Virginia; and his sister, Sharon Peters of Rocky Mount, Virginia.

Jim was a longtime member of Northside Baptist Church, where his faith was an important part of his life. He was also a dedicated and hardworking man who retired from Bassett Chair after 30 years of faithful service.

Those who knew Jim will remember him for his love of family, his strong work ethic, and the kindness and warmth he shared with those around him. Above all, Jim treasured his family and the memories they made together. His presence will be deeply missed, but his love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
