Jimmy Powell Lankford
Jimmy Powell Lankford, 67, of Westfield went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026. Jimmy was born to Agnes Shelton Lankford and Ellis Edison Lankford July 30th, 1958. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenny. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Darlene; brother, Michael; daughter, Brandi (Anthony); son, Matthew (Brittany); daughter, Melinda (Ryan), and many grandchildren. He cherished them all deeply. Jimmy loved his family. They were his happiness, his proudest accomplishments, and most definitely his soft spot. Jimmy was a proud Veteran of the US Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne and was a Ranger. He spoke with enthusiasm when reminiscing about his time in the service, his travels and accomplishments. He also spoke fondly of breaking the rules, getting into trouble, and jumping from planes. He said it took a special kind of crazy to do it, and all who knew him know that applied to Jimmy. Jimmy had many talents, hobbies and interests. He was truly a jack of all trades and could fix almost anything. He liked the challenge of a complex problem and enjoyed solving them, especially if he could help a friend or loved one while doing it. He liked being outdoors camping, fishing, hunting and going to his special "holes" in the Dan River. In his better years, he could frequently be found around a bonfire listening to music with a group of his buddies. He was tough as they come. He fought through many health problems over the past 20 years. He faced it all with his trademark sarcastic humor, grit and determination. As per Jimmy's wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. A private service and interment will be held by family at date to be determined. In remembrance of Jimmy, get outdoors, do something that brings you joy, hug a loved one, or raise a glass. Do anything that makes you happy in honor of him. He was happiest when making others smile and laugh. Jimmy will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. Donations can also be made online at American Cancer Society.
