Jo Ann Lillard

Jo Ann Lillard, 71, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025. She was born on September 7, 1954, to the late John Barker and Irene G. Barker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Roger Barker and Johnny Barker.

Jo Ann was a woman of Christian faith whose life was rooted in love, devotion, and family. In her spare time, she found joy in being with those she loved—especially her grandson, whom she raised as her own. She cherished the traditions that brought her family together, including decorating the Christmas tree each year. She was a fantastic woman and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering care for others.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 26 years, Herman Lillard; her son, Michael Hendricks; her grandson, Christopher Hendricks; two sisters, Mary Stone (Randy) and Vickie Barnes; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Bassett Funeral Service chapel at 12 noon, with Pastor Jason Alverson and Minister Daryl Turner officiating. The burial will follow after the service at Blackberry Baptist Church cemetery.
