Jo Ann Neice

Jo Ann Neice, affectionately known by many as Mamaw Coco, was a cherished figure whose warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered. Born on October 7, 1960, in Giles County, Virginia, Jo Ann's journey through life was one of joy, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. She passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, in Pearisburg, Virginia, surrounded by the love of her family.

Jo Ann's life was defined by the bonds she formed with her loved ones. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Gene Neice, married to Christina, and William Neice, married to Hollie. Her world was further brightened by the laughter and love of her grandchildren Kaya Harriman, Brantley Shouse, William Neice Jr, and Kaylynn Neice, all of whom brought immense joy and purpose to her life. Jo Ann's role as Mamaw Coco extended to a host of special grandchildren who cherished her nurturing spirit and the comfort of her presence.

The family tree that Jo Ann helped nurture included her siblings Ricky Walters with his wife Helen, Terry Walters, Linda Higgs with her partner James Mayo, Brenda Dean, Agnes Kitts, and Debbie Harvey. Her life was also graced by the companionship of special friends Sammy Wilson, and Kathy Phillips and her family, each of whom shared in the fabric of her daily life. Jo Ann's deep connection with her many cousins and friends further illustrated the breadth of her community and the impact of her generous spirit.

Though she was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Roy Walters and Shirley Trout Walters, her husband Jerry Neice Sr, her brother Little Bill Walters, and her special son DJ Phillips, Jo Ann's legacy is one of love and the enduring strength of family.

Jo Ann's interests reflected the simplicity of her pleasures and the depth of her character. She was a fan of classic television, finding comfort and joy in the timeless episodes of "The Waltons" and "The Andy Griffith Show." These shows echoed the values she held dear: community, kindness, and the gentle rhythms of rural life.

Above all, Jo Ann Neice loved her grandchildren and cherished her role as Mamaw Coco. It was a title that embodied not just her place within the family but also her role in the wider community. Her home was a haven, a place where laughter rang out and where every child knew they were loved unconditionally.

A memorial service will be conducted to celebrate the life of Jo Ann on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 6:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charlie Henderson officiating.
