Joan Rule

Joan Larrick “Nonie” Rule, age 94, of 403 Candlelight Drive, Staunton, Virginia died Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Bridgewater Retirement Community in Bridgewater.
Joan was born on February 27, 1930 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Howard R. and Mary Smith Larrick. She spent her childhood in Clifton Forge and summered on the Cowpasture River in the Sharon area. She graduated from Clifton Forge High School, then Mary Baldwin College. She moved to Staunton in 1965, where she raised her children. She enjoyed being a homemaker throughout her life. She always loved spending time with her family and friends, a party, the Hokies, and keeping an open door.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Dick” Larrick and a son, William A. “Billy” Rule III.
Surviving are her children, Jann Shenk (Larry), Sally Rule, and James Larrick Rule, all of Staunton; five grandchildren, Jonathan Shenk, Jill Midgett (Jimmy), Katie Shenk, Sara Erwin (Ben), and Taylor Gwinn (Aaron); ten great grandchildren, Jacob, Logan, Parker, Hailey, Gray, Henry, Hazel, Rose, Lilly, and Kailu; and a niece, Lynn Devier and a nephew, Steve Larrick (Anne).
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated, and a gathering of friends and family will take place at a later date.
