Joan Styers Giles

Joan Styers Giles, age 89 of Gastonia, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Atrium Health, Kings Mountain, NC. Mrs. Giles was born October 25, 1934 in Gastonia, NC to the late George Edward Styers and the late Laura Beatrice Baldwin Styers. She was married to the late Bobby Dean Giles.

She was a member of Marion Baptist Church, 2669 Marion Rd, Chatham, VA 24531. She earned her master’s degree from UNC-Charlotte, NC and proudly served as a teacher and later as a Principal in several North Carolina schools.

Family members left to remember Mrs. Giles include her children; Debra L. Giles, Karen G. Goode, Gregory D. Giles (Theresa) and Lisa G. Nobles (Jeff). She is survived by nine grandchildren: Barbara Francom (Mark), Crystal Carter (Ezra), Sarah Deese (Jeff), Lola Kristen Giles (Amanda), Nicholas Nobles (Sarah), Bobby Giles II (Kayla), Matthew Nobles (Maggie), Dana Strehl (Jacob), and Falicia Nierman (Devon). She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Camden, Bliss, Grayson, Elizabeth, Kinsley, Wilder, Parker and Maximus.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Jean Styers Rogers.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Marion Baptist Church with Dr. Henry M. Meadows, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Burial Park, Chatham VA.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. also at the church.
