JoAnn Scarce Strader

JoAnn Scarce Strader, 85, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026. JoAnn was born in Danville, VA on January 17, 1941 to the late Mary Louise Hambrick Scarce and the late Irving Huesman Scarce. She was predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Eugene Bobby Strader.

JoAnn was of the Christian Faith and was a member of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church in Toano, VA. She worked for many years in the Department of Chief Finance for the CIA, previous to her retirement. She was a graduate of Whitmell Farm Life School and Radford College.

JoAnn is survived by two brothers; Thomas Edward Scarce and Richard Nelson Scarce; a sister; Mary Lou Beck and husband Harvey; two nieces; Stephanie Goldstein (Ben) and Courtney Murphy; a great niece; Sophia Murphy; and nephew; Jonathan Scarce (Christina).

In addition to her parents, and husband, JoAnn was predeceased by a brother; Kenneth Carroll Scarce.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 2:00pm at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA, with Reverend Susan Parrish officiating.
