Joanne Teass Bolling

Joanne Teass Bolling, age 86, passed away in the city where she was born and retired to, Bedford, VA.

Joanne was a devoted wife, nurturing mother, loving grandmother and exceptional educator. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1957. After moving to Christiansburg with her family, she earned a Bachelor and Master of Science in Education from Radford

University. She was a passionate teacher and principal where she retired after many years with the Montgomery County Public Schools.

She enjoyed watercoloring, many clubs, and being active in her community and church, both in Bedford and Christiansburg.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine Nininger Teass, and a great grandson, Kingston Stone.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, J.R. (Buddy) Bolling. They have two daughters, Angela Harris of Virginia Beach, VA and Amy (Rick) Brinkman of Spokane, WA; three treasured grandchildren, Charley (McLane) Stone, Travis (Jordan) Harris and Chad (Adaeze) Brinkman and two cherished great grandchildren, Epperly and Leighton Stone. She is also survived by two siblings, Jack Teass and Mary (Otey) Dudley, and two special cousins, Joan Robbins and Jennie (Bill) Allman.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 24, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford, VA. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. McLane Stone and Rev. Dr. Dawn Compton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
