Joe Curtis Lewis
JOE CURTIS LEWIS, 79, of Rocky Gap, VA, went to be with the Lord he so faithfully served on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born June 11, 1945 in Freeman, WV, the son of the late William Estell & Mary Lester Lewis.
Joe was a member of Bastian Union church and served with the Gideons for 27 plus years. He was a short term missionary and had done missions work in Africa, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Mexico.
He was a Marine and served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years.
He and his wife moved to Bland County in 1976. He was known as the “Tire Man” and made many life long friends along the way serving the farmers in the area over the 56 years he served.
Joe lived a rich life and a life well lived. He was a friend to everybody and adored by many people he met along the way. He was the picture of “love.” He loved his wife and family and his children adored him. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William Estell & Mary Frances Lester Lewis, and his siblings, Margaret Johnson, David Lewis, Frank Lewis, Marie Giddens, George Lewis and Dollie Pitts.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Eva Walker Lewis; his children, Joey & Nancy Lewis, Michael & Sarah Lewis, Brady & Angela Lewis, Curt & Mandy Lewis and Katie & Jay Meadows; his 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Josephine Foran and Ronny Lewis, both of Bluefield; two special family members, Heather and Misty; his special sister-in-law, Cindy; and several nieces and nephews, special friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at Bastian Union Church with Pastor Barry Busby and Pastor George Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Fork Cemetery with military rites provided by the Bland American Legion Post #20 and the Bland VFW Post #7969.
The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 P.M. until service time, 3:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Joe’s honor to the Bastian Union Church Building Fund, 29 Bears Trail, Bastian, VA, 24314.
