John "Brad" Bradley Russell
John Bradley “Brad” Russell, 53, of Martinsville, VA, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. He was born on September 10, 1971, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Billy Joe Russell and Barbara Ann Smith Russell.
Brad was a family man, active in church, and a huge part of the Martinsville community for over 25 years. He and his wife, Amanda, were foster parents to 6 children over the years, and a host family for exchange students from China and Myanmar. He had a lifelong love of sports as an athlete, referee, and youth sports coach for many of his sons' soccer, basketball, and baseball teams, including the Virginia Valor baseball team, and a Parks & Rec team he took to the All-Star Tournament. He had a real passion for coaching his sons and their teammates. He also served as President of the Dan-Mar Officials Sports Association.
Brad had a long history in the furniture industry including most recently as the Senior VP of Operations at Bassett Mirror where he served almost 25 years and was a valued employee and beloved coworker.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Russell; children, Parker Russell, age 13, and Laettner Russell, age 11; his brother, Brooks Russell with wife Robin, and their sons Will and Brady Russell of Kentucky; and his brother, Brandon Russell and wife Amanda, of Georgia.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Cross Point Church in Ridgeway, VA, with Pastor Carl Keith officiating. There will be a private family gathering after the service.
