John Henry Hodges

John Henry Hodges, 86, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at his residence. He was born September 21, 1936 in Franklin County, to the late Marshall Wilber Hodges and Lilly Mae Cooper Hodges. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Amos Hodges; daughter, Arlene Hodges McCormick; son, Alan Hodges; sisters, Hazel Moore, Roxie “Lee” Williams, and Juanita Foley; brothers, Jesse, James, and Paul Hodges; and granddaughter, Heather Hodges.He had been employed by Stone Container Corporation for over 30 years, and had proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a high school graduate and of the Baptist faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved the outdoors and nature, and enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He loved God with all his heart, soul, and mind, and loved spending time with his family.Mr. Hodges is survived by a daughter, Glenda Cannoy (Robert); grandchildren, Selena Hatchett (William) and Crystal Songer; and great-grandchildren, Madison Pagans, Serenity Jordan, Colton Songer, Ivy Songer and Ava Songer.The Graveside Service will be Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at Henry Memorial Park, 8443 Virginia Avenue, Bassett, with Curtis Foley officiating.The family wishes to express their thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice for their loving and tender care during Mr. Hodges’ illness.Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
