John "J.C." Cleve Bennett

January 21, 1934 - October 4, 2024

Mr. John Cleve Bennett Jr., 90, born January 21, 1934, in Guilford County, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on October 4, 2024. A devoted member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church, J.C. lived a life marked by service, hard work, and love for his family and community. J.C. graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1954. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call of duty, serving as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1954 to 1957, including 11 months in Korea. Upon returning home, he worked alongside his father at Bennett's Grocery before embarking on a career at Sara Lee Hosiery, from which he retired. J.C. was predeceased by his parents, John (Cleve) Bennett, Sr. and Lottie Tickle Bennett; his beloved wife, Marie Slate Bennett; daughter-in-law, Vicky Bennett; great-granddaughter, Selena Torres; and niece Teresa Simmons. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his son, Todd Bennett of North Augusta, SC; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His memory will also be cherished by his special nieces and nephews: Melissa Hooker (Keith), Sheila Cook (Terry), Greg Dollyhite (Kellie), and Eddie Simmons, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. A graveside service to honor J.C.’s life will be held at Skyline Memory Gardens on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 2:00 pm. The service will be officiated by Reverend Rickey Rogers. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. Flowers are welcomed, or memorials can be made to The Shepherd's House, P.O. Box 1722, Mount Airy, NC 27030, in J.C.’s memory. The family wishes to say a special thanks to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Central Continuing Care for the care provided during J.C. sickness.
