John Kenneth Poore
John Kenneth "Johnny" Poore, 66, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026 peacefully at his home. He was born on March 20, 1960 in Dover, Delaware, a son of Flora Lois Teed Poore and the late David Elia Poore.
In addition to his father, Johnny was preceded in death by two siblings, Donna Arlene Poore and David "Wayne" Poore; his sister-in-law, Jean Poore; his brother-in-law, Bill Trimble; and his parents-in-law, Robert Bruce and Doris Coleman Karnes.
To know Johnny was to know someone who could fix just about anything. A gifted mechanic and true jack-of-all-trades, he had a lifelong passion for automobiles. Whether he was repairing, painting, buying, selling, or driving his cars, he was happiest with a wrench in his hand and grease on his clothes. He also enjoyed racing go-karts, fishing, and watching the boys in his family compete in wrestling. Johnny loved making people laugh and was always ready with a joke or a smile. More than his talents, Johnny will be remembered for his servant's heart. He never hesitated to help someone in need, often showing up before anyone even had to ask. His kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand made a lasting impact on countless lives.
Johnny's greatest joy was his family. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren, who were the center of his world. Johnny was great with the kids; he was always playing, rough-housing and entertaining all of them. He also had a well-known appreciation for good Mexican food.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 34 years, Tina Karnes Poore; his mother, Flora Lois Teed Poore; his son, Jonathan "Blake" Karnes Poore and wife, Nicole; his daughter, Heather Marie Poore Winters and husband, Zane; his brother, Anthony "Bruce" Poore and wife, Pat; his sister, Kathleen Spence and husband, Charles "Ahab," who had also been Johnny's best friend and like a brother since they were 12 years old; four cherished grandchildren, Bennett Winters, Silas Poore, Ryland Winters, and Elliot Poore; two sisters-in-law, Ann Trimble and June Oliver and husband, Greg; his beloved dogs, Josie May and Sassy Belle; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, dear friends, his Sandusky neighborhood family, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
A funeral service celebrating Johnny's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Lee Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., immediately prior to the service, at the chapel.
The family asks that any memorial contributions in Johnny’s honor be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
