John Ramsey Custer

John Ramsey Custer, age 85 of Chatham, Virginia passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Sovah Health Care in Martinsville, Virginia. Mr. Custer was born May 25, 1940 in Gretna, Virginia to the late Ernest Haywood Custer and the late Oscar Lena Rowland Custer. He was married to the late Nancy Hager Custer, who predeceased him in 2013.

Mr. Custer was an electrician before his retirement and was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses, baptized June 23, 1962.

Mr. Custer is survived by his sons, Jonathan David Custer and his wife Melanie, and Jerry Wayne Custer and his wife Michal, his adopted daughter, Theresa Custer, his grandchildren, Michelle Kautzman, Amanda Crews, D.J. Malone, Savannah Gutierrez, and Addison Custer, three great grandchildren, Elijah Gutierrez, Jayden Malone, and Brooklyn Malone,  and brother, Roy Custer and wife Patricia.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Adam Clayton; brothers, Percy Custer and his wife Anna, Haywood Custer and his wife Lucy; sisters, Agnes Roach and her husband Sandy, and Judie Huff; son-in-law, Michael Church; and Jody Custer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Blanch, NC 27212 on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 2:00pm
