John Russell Woodford, age 84, of Huddleston, Virginia, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 1, 2025.Born on November 24, 1940, in Front Royal, Virginia, toAllen Jeter Woodford andVerna Lee Laughon Woodford, John's early years were marked by a fervent enthusiasm for life that never waned. He was a proud Boy Scout and an avid band member during his school years.

John studied Business Administration at Bridgewater College, where his prowess at the ping pong table often outshined his academic achievements. After college, he settled in Huddleston and dedicated six years to serving his country in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

His professional career spanned over four decades at Burlington Glass Fabrics, where he held multiple roles, before spending most of his career as a Data Processing Manager, and finally, moving into a Purchasing Manager position before retiring in 2007.

Married to his beloved wife, Esther Overstreet Woodford, for 60 years, John was a cornerstone of stability and love in their life together. He was deeply committed to his community and Mentow Baptist Church, which he joined in 1963. As a trustee, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and active committee member, John's faith led him to participate in numerous humanitarian missions, including church building projects and relief efforts following floods and hurricanes.

John led his family with faith, love, and a touch of pixie dust. A dedicated Disney aficionado, John not only cherished the numerous family trips to Disney World but also introduced the magic of Walt Disney World with friends and extended family. He was the magical PaPa who always had a Diet Coke in hand and candy in his pockets for his grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Jean Allison and Lois Anne.John's legacy is carried on by his wife, Esther, his daughter, Laura Lee Wood, son-in-law Wesley Wood, his grandchildren, Sarah, Olivia, Bailey, Bethanney, Kendall, Nick, Hayden, Dalton, Kat, and his great-grandson, Brody.His life is a testament to his unwavering faith and the joy he found in serving others.

A visitation will be held at Mentow Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 11 AM to 12 PM. The funeral service will immediately follow at the church at 12 PM. Memorials may be sent to Mentow Baptist Church,3282 Mentow Drive, Huddleston, Virginia 24104.
