John "Santa" Leslie Glisson
John Leslie Glisson (Santa) 69, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist following a 9 year battle with Leukemia. He was born on February 11, 1955, in McCayesville, GA to the late Leslie Glisson and Rosa Lee Newman White.Mr. Glisson served in the United States Air Force as a MSGT Seniors Nuclear Weapons Specialist and retired on October 31, 2001, after twenty-five years of service. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, AF Training Ribbon, and the AF overseas Tour Ribbon.He was preceded in death by two half-bothers Jim Mull and George Mull.He is survived by his wife, Kimberley Smith Glisson; daughter, Kristina Cannon (Brad); son, Anthony Smith (Lori); sister, Rosa Lynn White; grandchildren, James Cannon, Annie Jean (AJ) Smith, Bryson Smith, and Zachary Smith.He adored his papillons; those that crossed the rainbow bridge Bear; Buttercup; Lexi; Abbey and his current smiles as he liked to call them Tater: Lektra; Ghost and Opera.The annual tradition of being Santa visiting hospitals, nursing homes, taking pictures and handing out candy canes to everyone he met was his favorite time of year. In addition he was the lead music director for all outings and events.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Norris Funeral Services with Pastor Anthony Smith and Brad Cannon officiating. Per John’s direction, following the service everyone is invited to join in the celebration of his life at Hugo’s Restaurant in Uptown Martinsville beginning 2 p.m.For those wishing to do so they may visit the family at the home (330 Stonewall Jackson Trl.) during the hours of 2-7 p.m. Tuesday – Thursday.In Lieu of flowers, a non-profit (Santa365) is being created to continue his traditions in helping others.Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Martinsville, VA is serving the Glisson family.
