Johnny Douglas Howell

Johnny Douglas Howell, 61, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Moses Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was born on December 18, 1964, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Elizabeth Ellen Maxwell and the late Johnny Frank Howell.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew “Dusty” Howell; and sisters, Ronda Cook and Lora Frazier.

Johnny worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and had a heart for helping others. He loved trading, buying, selling, and swapping, and he especially enjoyed motorcycles and bluegrass music. Johnny loved to cook and eat, but above all, he treasured his family and had a special place in his heart for his beloved fur babies.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Jason D. Howell (Beth); sister, Jolene Harris (Timothy); brother, Timothy D. Howell (Gary Alley); brother-in-law, Victor “Radar” Cook; girlfriend, Tamatha Frazier; grandchildren, Christopher Howell, Joshua Howell, Caleb Howell, and Joseph Howell; two great-grandchildren; his beloved fur babies, Harley, Baby, Pepper, and Casper; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Fair Haven Memorial Park with Pastor Michael Howell officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of his mother.
