Joseph Barrett Cartrett
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Barrett Cartrett of Appomattox, aged 48, on December 15, 2023. Born on May 22, 1975, in Lynchburg, VA, he was the beloved son of the late Chester Floyd Cartrett, Jr., and Cheryl Maureen Haas Cartrett. Joseph is survived by his wife, Lora Woods Cartrett, his son, Otis Barrett Cartrett, and his daughters, June Elizabeth Cartrett and Pearl Louanna Cartrett. Also left to cherish his memory are his brother, William Cartrett (Erica); brother, Tim Cartrett; aunts, Valerie Pillow (Mark), Tracy Munn (Gregg), Jill Whitt (Jeff); uncle, Channing Haas (Lori); mother and father-in-law, Kristi and Terry Woods; sister-in-law, Jenna Fulmer; brother-in-law, Marshall Woods (Ashley); nephews, Ferron Cartrett, Frederick Cartrett, Hal Cartrett, Nate Woods and nieces, Carolina Fulmer, Chapel Fulmer and Wren Cartrett. Joe’s warm presence, coupled with a generous heart, could be seen within the community and especially at his kid’s sporting events. His acts of generosity, rooted in a steadfast commitment to giving and a willingness to assist others, left a lasting impression on those fortunate to know him. At the heart of Joe’s purpose was an unmatched dedication to his family, shaping a legacy characterized by kindness, compassion, and unwavering love. As we mourn the loss of Joe, we invite friends and family to join us in celebrating the remarkable life he led.
