Joseph Leonard Cox
Joseph Leonard Cox, Jr. age 86, of Danville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at Stratford Health and Rehab in Danville.
Mr. Cox was born on February 25, 1940, to the late Esther Richardson Cox and Joseph Leonard Cox, Sr.
Mr. Cox was a devoted member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church as well as the Red Men Poquoson Tribe 124. He enjoyed NASCAR, reading and he proudly served our country in the Army National Guard. Mr. Cox worked for Danville Lumber & Manufacturing up until his retirement.
Mr. Cox is survived by his loving wife, Portia Lipford Cox; son, Steve Cox (Monica); and grandchildren, Erin Cox and William Cox.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was also predeceased by his sisters, Pattie Vaughn, Ruth Davidson, and Peggy Cox; and his brothers, Nathaniel Cox, Earl Cox, and Aubrey Cox
A funeral service for Mr. Cox will be conducted on Sunday April 19, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services – Mount Hermon Chapel with Pastor Myron Bruce officiating. Internment will follow at Highland Burial Park. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The Cox family would like to thank Commonwealth Hospice, Care at your Site, and Pastor Myron Bruce for the love and care that they have provided during these times.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to First Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund.
