Joseph Raymond Sanders

Joseph Raymond Sanders, Jr., 77, of Smyth County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly Sanders, his parents, Joseph and Ruth Sanders, and his brother, David Sanders.

Joseph dedicated 35 years of his life working as a skilled tool and die maker at Comet Tool. After retiring, he and Beverly made their home in Marion, Virginia, where he found great joy in the quiet beauty of nature, often spending hours on the porch watching the world go by.

A man of simple pleasures, Joseph's pride and joy was his lovingly maintained 1968 Oldsmobile 442 — a symbol of his appreciation for craftsmanship and classic style.

He leaves behind a large and loving extended family, all of whom will miss him dearly and remember his steady presence and quiet strength.

At Joseph’s request, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to take a moment to enjoy the view from a quiet porch — just as he would have.
