Joseph Wayland Hendrick
Joseph Wayland Hendrick, 94 of Amherst, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born on March 10, 1931, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Hendrick and Lucille Ware Hendrick.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Harriet Hendrick; one daughter, Debbie Sparks of Gretna; three granddaughters Terri Mullins (Bobby), Stefanie Goodman (Lester) and Kelly Knauer (Kevin), all of Gretna; nine great grandchildren, Victoria, Myra, Emmalee, Trevor, Tye, Damon, Aiden, Lathan, and Adley; and three great-great grandchildren.
He served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict, where he was trained in metal fabrication. He used these skills throughout the years at Gary Steel and then General Electric. He retired to his beloved mountain home where he worked tirelessly to keep in pristine condition for many years. He was a former member of Issac Walton where he loved shooting and archery. He was also a skilled leather craftsman.
He was a proud member of Beulah Baptist Church his entire life. He loved to tell people he had been there since the “Cradle Roll.”
A graveside service celebrating his life will be conducted on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, 724 Leesville Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
