Joshua "Josh" Samuel Moore
Joshua Samuel “Josh” Moore, 24, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on August 7, 2026. Josh was born on November 16, 2001, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Alicia and Marc Moore.
Josh was truly larger than life. He lived life to the fullest and had a way of lighting up every room he entered. There was never a dull moment when Josh was around, and his quick wit, endless jokes, infectious personality, and ability to make people laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Josh was passionate about his family and treasured the time he spent with them. He was especially close with his parents and siblings and loved being surrounded by his family. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend who made those around him feel loved through his humor, loyalty, and larger-than-life spirit.
Josh had a deep love for wrestling. He wrestled while attending William Byrd High School and later returned to the sport as an assistant coach, sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation. His wrestling coach and mentor, Thomas Kessler, held a special place in Josh’s life.
Josh was also a die-hard Baltimore Ravens fan and proudly supported his team to the fullest. He loved music of all kinds and especially enjoyed going to concerts and experiencing live music. Some of his happiest memories were made at Smith Mountain Lake, where the family “lake shack” was one of his favorite places to be. He loved grilling with family, boating, and riding the Sea-Doo, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Josh was proud of his recent accomplishments, having earned his CDL and Hazmat certification through his employer, Estes Trucking. He was excited about his future and proud of the work he had put into building his career.
Josh shared two wonderful years with the love of his life, Sarah Leigh. Together, they enjoyed live music, shopping, cooking, and spending time together. Josh also loved Sarah’s dog, Phoebe, and took great joy in teaching her new tricks.
Josh leaves behind his loving parents, Alicia and Marc Moore; his partner and love of his life, Sarah Leigh; his siblings, Randal Tickle II Lyndsey Moore (Dawson) and Danielle Moore; his “little bros,” TJ and Izaih Duncan; his beloved nieces and nephews, Mia, Kyler, Brynnley, and Olivia; grandfather, Pete Duncan and grandmother’s Doris Moore and Pamela Casey; and the family dog, Duke.
He is also survived by his extended family, including Derek and Amy Duncan and their children, Brooklyn and Everleigh, and Mandy Lee and her children, Whitney, Haley, and Megan, as well as many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Josh was preceded in death by Zachary Tickle, Odessa King, Ladonna Duncan, Sue Duncan, Junior Moore, Timmy Duncan, and Kingston Duncan.
Josh leaves behind lifelong friends Hunter Howard, Tyler Bailey, Jason Stanley, Trevor Thompson, Nick Semones and Matt Russell along with countless others who were fortunate enough to share in his life. His friendships were genuine, his loyalty was unwavering, and the memories he created with those around him will never be forgotten.
Josh's life was far too short, but the impact he made in 24 years was immeasurable. His laughter, jokes, love, and unforgettable personality will live on through everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Thrasher Memorial Church, 707 E Washington Ave, Vinton, VA 24179. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Thrasher Memorial Church, with graveside services to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Josh’s life.
