Joy Louise Jones, 77, of Lynchburg, Virginia, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 30, 1946, in Amherst County, Virginia, to the late Sanford McCray and Ossie Campbell. She was the wife of the late Clyde A. Jones, Sr.Joy lived a life marked by warmth, kindness, and a deep devotion to her family and faith. For many years, she dedicated herself to the food service industry, where her smile and compassionate spirit made an impact on all who knew her. Joy retired from the Central Virginia Training Center, having worked in the kitchen for many years. Prior to that, she worked at Howard Johnson’s in Lynchburg, a job she often reminisced about with great fondness. A gifted cook, Joy was especially known for her famous Jello cake, which became a beloved treat for her children and grandchildren.A woman of strong faith, Joy was an active member of Kingdom Power Worship Center, where she served as a greeter. She took great joy in serving her Lord and Savior, and her church family was a vital part of her life.Known for her adventurous spirit, Joy loved to travel, especially enjoying her cruises. Though she had a mischievous side, she was most remembered for her loving and generous heart. Joy was a woman who made everyone feel welcome and loved, and her family was the center of her world. As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she filled her home with warmth, laughter, and love.Joy’s greatest legacy is the deep love she shared with her family. She is survived by her son, Clyde A. Jones, Jr.; three daughters, Shirley Gayles, Phyllis Jones, and Crystal Penn (Brandon); her brother, Darnell McCray (Tracy); eight grandchildren, Jesse Jones, Teresa Jones Barbour, Brian Gayles, Christopher Poindexter, India Taylor, Eryqan Guy, Patrick Mears, and China Poindexter; five great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends.Joy’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her best. She was a constant source of love, joy, and strength to her family, and her kindness will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to experience her generous spirit.May Joy rest in peace, surrounded by the love and peace of her Lord, knowing she was cherished deeply by her family and all who knew her.
