Joyce Elaine Seay Thomas

July 8, 1943 - August 11, 2025

Joyce Elaine Seay Thomas, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 11, 2025 at Roman Eagle Nursing Home, after numerous years of declining health.

Joyce was born on a dairy farm in Pittsylvania County, VA on July 8, 1943 to the late Joseph Howard Seay and Virginia Stovall Seay, and was the second eldest of nine children. Being raised on “The Farm”, Joyce learned countless valuable life lessons and carried them with her throughout her life. She remained steadfast and held true to herself, no matter the numerous struggles she encountered along her lifetime. Her Faith guided her throughout and never wavered. She loved to talk about Jesus and enjoyed being at church to hear his word every Sunday, without fail, until her health deteriorated, and she could no longer attend.

Joyce was always known as a caring, giving person whose laugh would light up the room and make us all smile and giggle. Her warmth radiated, and we could always feel her love.

Along with her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by 7 siblings, her brothers, Bruce “Wayne” Seay, John “Sammy” Seay, Timmy Seay, Joseph “Joe” Seay, Ronald “Ronnie” Seay, and Donald Seay as well as her only sister, Christine Seay Litton.

Joyce is survived by her three sons to hold her memory dear, John L. Thomas Jr., Jerry L. Thomas, and Joseph “Joey” L. Thomas and their families.

In addition to her children, also left to cherish her memory is her final sibling, the last of the generation, Robert Seay and his wife Brenda of Danville, VA, both of whom doubled as her caregivers. With a family as big as hers, there are numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom Joyce loved with every ounce of her being. To be snatched up and hugged with a kiss from Joyce as she giggled with happiness to see us will be something we all remember and hold dear to our hearts for the rest of our lives.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Roman Eagle Nursing Home staff, for taking the time and having plenty of patience with Joyce over her las several years. We know it wasn’t always easy, but it was always appreciated. Joyce would also want to be sure to extend her appreciation and love to Robert and Brenda, or as she affectionately called them “Brother & Sissy”. Your love and dedication to her did not go unnoticed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Joey Bray officiating. A visitation will be held on the same day, prior to the service from 1-2:00pm also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel.

Rest easy Aunt Joyce. Celebrate in Heaven as you are no longer in any pain or suffering. We will miss you but rest assured, we will see you again one day. We will forever cherish the time we had with you and the memories we made. We love you.
