Joyce Mawyer Purvis, born on January 29, 1942, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024.Joyce lived a life filled with love, warmth, and devotion to her family and friends. She enjoyed the simple joys of reading and honing her culinary skills in the kitchen. Cooking and watching cooking shows brought her immense delight, and she often shared her love of food with loved ones. Joyce also enjoyed playing board games and card games, creating countless cherished memories around the table.Funeral services to honor and celebrate Joyce’s life will be held at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, 4246 South Amherst Highway, Madison Heights, on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Virginia Memorial Cemetery in Forest, Virginia. Pastor Dr. Derik Hamby will officiate the service.Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, John Herman Mawyer and Ellen Francis Wood Mawyer; her beloved husband of 46 years, Morris Hunter Purvis; her sister, Dorothy Mae Giles; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Grace Hunter Purvis and Sizer Bernice Purvis; brother-in-law, Soule Bernice Purvis; brother-in-law, Donald Gregory Hunt; and sister-in-law, Nancy Lee Purvis.She is survived by her daughters, MeLea Moore (Steve) and Paula Bailey (Greg); her sister, Nancy Hunt Ogden (Sonny); brothers-in-law, Alfred Elvin Purvis (Susan) and John Leon Purvis; five grandchildren, Lauren, Robert (Ashley), Chase (Zaire), Scott (Jessie), and Adam; and seven great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Harold, Ryker, River, McKayla (Traman), McKenzie, and William. Joyce also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to Randolph Memorial Baptist Church or the Monelison Rescue Squad in Madison Heights, Virginia, in Joyce’s memory.Arrangements are being handled by Whitten Monelison Chapel.
