Julia Mcguire Compton

Julia McGuire Compton, 86, of Martinsville, Va. passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025. She was born in Martinsville, on January 17, 1939, to Harry Thomas McGuire and Lottie Roach McGuire.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Larry Wayne Compton; her sister, Lois Ann Durrette and brother, Thomas McGuire.

She is survived by her niece, Jane McGuire Durrette; nephew, Greg McGuire (Rhonda); as well as several great-nieces and nephews. Julia and Larry enjoyed living at Smith Mountain Lake prior to moving to King’s Grant. Julia enjoyed her time at King’s Grant and made many friends. She and Larry loved traveling. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ, as well as listening to country, gospel and blue grass music. Julia was an avid animal lover and rescued numerous dogs and cats.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Roselawn Burial Park and will be officiated by Reverend Dr. J.D. Harmon.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the Cool Branch Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Cool Branch Volunteer Fire Department at 3060 Smith Mountain Road, Penhook, VA. 24137.
