Katherine Viar Shrewsbury

December 3, 1956 - March 25, 2026

Katherine Viar Shrewsbury, 69, of Daleville, went to be with her Savior on March 25, 2026. She was the daughter of Rita Walters Williams and William Richard Viar; later being blessed to be the stepdaughter of Robert Lawrence Williams. Kathy was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia, the first of three beloved children. She is survived by her brother and sister: Richard Viar (Tina) and Teresa Sowers (Chris).

Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Scott Shrewsbury; daughter, Teresa Shrewsbury Cuddy (Ted) of Hardy, Va; daughter, Mary Katherine Shrewsbury Lugar (David) of Maynardville, TN; and grandson, Justin Lugar. She is also survived by her precious nieces and nephews, as well as her great-niece, great-nephews and cherished extended family.

She graduated from Northside High School in 1975, where she played flute in the marching band. She attended Virginia Western Community College where she met the love of her life, Scott. Kathy worked for many years as a secretary at Lord Botetourt High School where she was loved by many. She loved reading, crafts, gardening and family beach trips.

Kathy was known for her sense of humor, quick wit, intuition, wisdom and motherly care. She was a devoted mother and spouse who deeply loved her family. She lived her life grounded in her Christian faith and now rests in eternal peace in the loving arms of Jesus. Kathy was baptized at Air Lee Court Baptist Church and was a long-time member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Daleville.

Kathy’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Duke University, Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their kindness and care.

Services will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 1 pm at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel. Interment will follow services at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home (540)366-0707.
